Independence Day celebrations in Anuradhapura parallel to the main Independence Day celebrations in Kataragama under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaka, will be held at the Anuradhapura public playgrounds on February 4, 2011.

The ceremony to be held under the patronage of North Central Province Governor Karunaratne Divulgane and Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake has been organized by the committee headed by Anuradhpura District Secretary H M K Herath with the aim of ensuring peace and friendship among the religions, according to the Mahinda Chinthanaya. District Secretary H M K Herath said however, if bad weather prevails in the area on February 4, the celebrations will be held at the Anuradhapura Madhya Maha Vidyalaya premises.
