Govt spends hugely on drinking water
The Government spends a large amount of money to supply water to the
people because provision of pure and safe drinking water to the populace
is one of its prime duties and responsibilities, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa said.

He made this observation participating in a ceremony at Temple Trees
to mark the issuing of a special commemorative stamp to mark the 125th
anniversary of the Labugama reservoir and treatment plant yesterday in
the presence of a special Hungarian delegation. The Hungarian delegation
is here to attend the inauguration of work on the Labugama reservoir and
treatment plant with Hungarian government aid today.
President Rajapaksa who also gave a detailed description about the
development activities launched by the Government and new investment
opportunities available in the North also discussed measures to promote
tourism and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and Hungarian.
Hungarian Delegation Leader and Hungary's Secretary of State Dr.
Barlos Butos expressed confidence that Sri Lanka would soon emerge as a
developed nation.
He noted that there are wide ranging opportunities to promote
cooperation between the two countries in a member of sectors.
Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Jeevan Kumaratunga, and Geethanjana
Gunawardena and Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa were also present.
