Foreigners nabbed for currency smuggling

Two foreigners were taken into custody at the departure lounge of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Customs officers yesterday, while they were illegally taking Sri Lankan currency notes to China.

The two foreigners had failed to declare to the customs that they had currency worth about Rs 10 million on them.

According to the customs, the suspects had planned to go to China via Hong-Kong by a Cathe Pacific Flight which was scheduled to depart at 12.20 pm. At the last moment of their departure the suspects were apprehended by customs officers. The custom officers are conducting further investigations in to the incident.
