Electricity to be restored within week

The total loss incurred by the CEB due to the recent rains and floods is estimated at Rs 100 million the Power and Energy Ministry, said yesterday.

The Ministry said, the Electricity Supply was disrupted in a number of areas due to the inclement weather conditions experienced during the last few days. High Voltage Transmission systems in the Northern, Eastern, Uva and Central Provinces have gone out of commission and electricity has been disrupted in many areas due to falling trees, and uprooting of electricity posts. Meanwhile Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said some of the transmission systems switched off during rains and floods have now being switched on and relevant parties have been directed to repair damaged electricity lines and transmission systems as soon floods receded to bring the supply services back to normal without further delay. The Minister said he believed that electricity could be restored in all areas within a week as work gangs had been already despatched to the affected areas.
