Vietnam seeks high-skilled personnel

VIETNAM: The aspiration of Vietnam to become an industrialized nation in 2020 faces many challenges, one of which is ensuring essential human resources.

Vietnamese Communist Party’s ninth Congress discussed several alternatives for training a contingent of highly-trained professionals to serve a knowledge-based economy. Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology President Chau Van Minh called for an appropriate mechanism to encourage professionals to contribute the best of their abilities to national growth.

Minh proposed to renewing existing policies for scientific and technological development, fostering an environment of competitiveness that would impede any type of monopoly.

He asked for more state investment in state-of-the-art technology, suggested the reform of financial and administration mechanisms in the science sector, and recommended modernizing education.
