Police arrest mastermind

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on Sunday arrested the mastermind in
a Rs 7.5 million ransom case at Dematagoda. The suspect was allegedly
involved in the abduction of a businessman and demanding Rs 7.5 million
for his release. The CCD said the main suspect Mohamed Jerard with
several other suspects were allegedly behind the abduction of a
businessman in Dematagoda demanding a Rs 7.5 million ransom for his
release.
The CCD stated that the main suspect was absconding for six months,
while the other suspects were arrested. The Police also stated another
person who had promised the main suspect protection from the Police was
also arrested by the CCD. Police added that the latter had demanded Rs
150,000 to obtain this protection, but was given a three-wheeler
instead.
According to the CCD Jerard was arrested at Kahataovita and the other
at Ja-Ela. Mohomed Jerard was produced before the Colombo Magistrate and
was remanded till January 21. |
