Two drown in Kelani River

Two members of a pilgrim party from Mt Lavinia returning from a trip to Sri Pada were drowned while bathing in the Kelani Ganga at Yatiyantota yesterday.

The two victims were identified as Ayendra Lakmal (21) and Sumith Hemantha Kumara Lakmal Alwis (22) of Peiris Road, Mt Lavinia.

Ayendra Lakmal’s body was found by Navy divers yesterday and a search was still on for the body of Hemantha Kumara, a father of one and an electrician attached to a private firm.

Yatiyantota Police are investigating.
