Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader :
Not upto expectations
Demi Hewamanna
Voyage of the Dawn Treader follows with Lucy and Edmund Pevensie
living with their relatives and a very loud mouthed cousin Eustace
(living in his world of bugs). As the first and the second, the film
begins with attention to Edmund (Skandar Keynes) who wants to join the
army, but is called to help with the groceries by his younger sister
Lucy (Georgie Henley).
Prince Caspian welcoming Edmund to the Dawn Treader |
This time, its only Lucy and Edmund that return to Narnia (along with
Eustace) reunited with Prince Caspian, and are relieved to be away from
the real world and back into the world where they are King and Queen of
Narnia.
The film is based upon a green mist that comes and steals the souls
of Narnians. The only way they can put an end to this misery is if they
find seven magical swords and lay it on Aslan’s table. In the beginning
of the story, we see how Lucy and Edmund all grown up now are struggling
on their own (without Peter and Susan) and with each others inner darker
emotions.
Lucy thinks she isn’t pretty as her sister and jealousy grows within,
while Edmund still fights with himself about being able to lead.
Even though this is what is shown in the beginning, the film goes on
to the hunt for the seven swords and at the very last moment only gives
attention to the darker emotions of Lucy and Edmund.
Eustace as well, learns a lot in this adventure, makes a new best
friend and learns to see life in a good way.
I give a thumbs up to the great animation effects provided in this
film and a person who sits three rows from the big screen gets a good
feeling watching it so close.
There is nothing new that you would expect to see and as the last
one, Aslan makes his entrance at the last moment. I feel it is the same
procedure being repeated in a different location minus the older King
and Queen.
I love the first one (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) and liked
the second one (Prince Caspian) but the third one just did not have that
WOW effect on me or the people who were a fan of Narnia.
I do hope the next in line will be better than this with more action
and maybe love…
