New bus service

A new bus service commenced between Chavakachcheri and Jaffna fulfilling a long felt need of the people in Thnankilappu, Maravanpulo, Kovilakkandy and Kachchanthoppu areas.

The new bus service commenced at the beginning of this year when the difficulty faced by schoolchildren, sick and elderly persons and the public in those areas without a proper transport mode was brought to the notice of the Divisional Secretary and the Jaffna Government Agent by the Civil Affairs Office of the 523 Brigade at Nunavil.

The transport problem was one of the major issues discussed at the Civil Development Committees comprising Army officers and community leaders in respective areas.

The service provided by the Jaffna Private Bus Association will facilitate transport between Chavakachcheri and Jaffna via Thnankilappu, Maravanpulo, Kovilakkandy and Kachchanthoppu. The bus is scheduled to function two turns from Chavakachcheri daily one at 7.15 am and the other at 11.30 am. Another two turns from Jaffna to Chavakachcheri will function at 9.00 am and 2.30 pm. Commander, 523 Brigade Brigadier Prabath Dematampitiya, Army officers and other ranks serving under the Brigade and residents in surrounding villages attended the inauguration.
