Establishment of National School of Business Management
On a proposal made by Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma, Cabinet approval was granted for the establishment
of a Business School affiliated to NIBM in the name of National School
of Business Management. A 50 acre block of land in Pitipana, Homagama
owned by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) has been identified to
set up this National School with degree awarding status. Since it is a
self financing institute it was permitted to seek a long-term soft loan
of Rs 3.5 billion from local and foreign banks.
Govt bids for proposed Commonwealth Games - 2018 at Hambantota
The Government intends to act as the host country to hold the
Commonwealth Games - 2018. Expression of Interest has been submitted and
proposed to select Hambantota as the venue. An organizing committee
co-chaired by the Sports Minister and Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard
Cabraal, has been appointed.
On a proposal by Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage Cabinet
approval was granted to proceed with the initial measures taken on this
matter.
Actions to conserve Neelagiri Maha Seya at Lahugala
On a proposal made by National Heritage Minister Dr Jagath Balasuriya,
Cabinet approval was granted for the rehabilitation work of this Stupa
under the Archeology Department.
Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya District Hospitals to be developed with
Euro 86.49 Million Netherlands Assistance.
The Government of Netherlands has pledged concessionary financial
assistance through the Rabo Bank International of the Netherlands for
identified projects in the country.
Under this financial assistance Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya districts
General Hospitals will be developed. On a proposal made by Health
Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Cabinet granted approval to award the
contract to a construction company in the Netherlands for a total cost
of Euro 86.49 million.
Three MoUs to be signed with the Socialist People's Libyan Arab
Jamahiriya
The Libyan Leader agreed to provide US $500 million as a financial
cooperation package for development projects in Sri Lanka when the
President visited Libya in April 2009.
On a proposal made by External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris,
approval was granted to three Memoranda of Understandings signed between
the two countries, during the visit of the President in 2009, to provide
assistance for infrastructure development in the North East and the
development of highways and communication and tourism.
CATIC Grant Skyline Hotel and Rainbow Multi functional Complex in
Colombo
China National Aero Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC)
intends to purchase land around Galle Face Green area, to build a multi
functional complex comprising a five star hotel and a shopping mall with
direct investment of nearly US $500 million. On a proposal made by
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, cabinet approved this
project proposal to be proceeded on the basis of agreement concluded
with the earlier investor Shangri-La Hotels Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
The planned development in this area has already attracted another
investment of around US $500 million from Shangri-La Hotels Lanka (Pvt)
Ltd., which proposes to build a 500 room hotel. Residencies and shopping
complex are to be completed by 2013.
The total foreign investment on these two projects will be around USD
1000 million.
This will assist developing Colombo as a middle income Commercial
City and also to accommodate nearly 2.5 million tourists expected by
2016.
Water Supply in Moneragala to be developed - parallel to the
Deyata Kirula Exhibition 2011.
On a proposal by Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena action is being taken by the National Water Supply and
Drainage Department to upgrade the Buttala Water Supply Scheme.
Accordingly, Pipelines will be done covering Nakkala - Medagama - Bible
Road, Buttala - Kataragama Road, Buttala - Badalkumbura Road, Kumbukkana
=- Okkampitiya Road, Buttala - Helangama Road, Tanamalwila - Udawalawa
Road while augmenting the Buttala water supply scheme.
