Minister tells UNP, JVP:

Don't make baseless allegations

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday challenged UNP and JVP members to point out if there were any welfare centers where flood victims haven't been provided food and other relief.

Addressing a press conference at the Disaster Management Ministry auditorium yesterday, the Minister said that unlike other political parties this was the first media briefing held by the ministry in connection with this unfavourable weather condition.

He said he and other higher ranking officers were in the affected areas to attend to the needs of the situation.

Minister Amaraweera said that while they were attending to the needs of the people neither UNP nor JVP members were seen there although they made baseless statements.

They also claimed that only Rs 1,000 million has been allocated for this ministry but they would witness what an enormous service would be done under this ministry.
