Six dead, eight injured in bus van collision

Six persons were killed and eight injured when a van and a bus collided yesterday in Kosgama.


 The ill-fated van

The accident had taken place on the Colombo-Avissawella road, near the Bo tree at Aluthambalama, between 3.30 and 3.40 am, the police said.

Kosgama OIC Chief Inspector A S Herath, said there were no children or women among the dead and the injured had been taken to the Avissawella Hospital. The van had been travelling from Colombo to Avissawella, when it collided head on with the speeding bus bound for Colombo from Embilipitiya.

Some of the injured had died on the spot, while some others had died on the way to hospital. Several occupants in the van too had suffered multiple fractures, according to hospital sources.
