Eleven vie for new domestic air services

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has given the green
light to Senok Aviation to begin a domestic helicopter service, the
Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) told Daily News Business.

The Senok application is still in the process and approval will be
given on how fast the company put their systems in place to satisfy the
CAASL requirements, a senior CAASL official said.
The CAASL has received another six applications for aeroplanes and
five applications for helicopter operations within the country. Apart
from Senok Aviation there is another helicopter applicant and an
aeroplane applicant that indicates a progress to commence domestic
airlines.
The authority also said with the sound economic environment and
tourism industry thriving in the country the demand for domestic
airlines especially from investors and tourists will increase
significantly.
Senok Aviation CEO Keerthi Dissanayake said the application to
commence the domestic helicopter service is in the final stage and CAASL
has already approved the import of two brand new Eurocopter AS350-B3.
“The completion of the hangar will take around three to four months
and once the facility inspections are up to the standards of CAASL the
company will have the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to commence
operations in May this year,” Dissanayake said.
Several domestic airline operators for their said they expect to
purchase a few more aircraft in the future.
“There will be competitive rates for passengers,” an official said. |
