Youth talents in photography, wood carving, and arts were awarded and
rewarded at the 32nd youth awards festival recently held at the Youth
Theatre, Maharagama organized by the National Youth Services Council.
This youth award festival was started in 1976 as a short drama
festival and it was extended and developed as a festival of all
aesthetic fields from 1980.
More than 1000 photographers, poets, lyric writers, musicians,
craftsmen, artists, dancers, writers were introduced to the National
level through these youth awards festival. The most attractive and
creative division in this awards festival is fine arts division.
Thousands and thousands of budding young artist take part in the fine
arts competitions. There are two competitions in the photographic
contest, Black and White and Colour.
“Waterfall” (colour) and “At the dawn” (Black and white) of Achala
Priyankara Wasala (Kurunegala) secured the both first places in both
competitions (Black and White and Colour).
“The Buddha” of M H Rasanga of Galle secured the first place in the
wood carving competition.
The Buddha, Maragana Parajaya, the traditional art of Chamara
Edirisuriya (Gampaha) clinched the first place in the traditional arts
competition and Ravi Kamalawarna (Polonnaruwa) secured the first place
in expression arts competition.
First place winners of the fine arts competitions received Rs 15,000
in cash along with the memorial plaque.
The winners were awarded and rewarded at the 32nd youth awards
festival recently held at the Youth Theatre, Maharagama. the Chief Guest
of the festival is the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma. Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake, Secretary to
the University S S Hewapathirana and the Chairman, Director General of
the National Youth Services Council Lalith Pium Perera also graced the
occasion.
