Leeds International school which brought Charles Dickens’ evergreen
tale Oliver Twist to the stage as Oliver will once again enthrall the
audience with their latest stage production, Rats. The musical which is
based on Robert Browning’s popular folktale The Piped Piper of Hamelin
is directed by well known actor and artistic director Jerome L De Silva.
De Silva had previously worked with the students in last times Oliver
which was an astounding success. Rats is the school’s Drama Club’s
second production.
Leeds International School comprises of six schools located in areas
such as Panadura, Matara, Galle, Payagala, Horana and Ambalangoda.
The main school in Panadura was founded in 1999. With ‘striving for
excellence’ as their motto, the school encourages its students to excell
in extra curricular activities as well as studies. Yasas Munasinghe,
Kasun Fernando, Dulanga Fernando, Sandalanka Stary, Veronica Mcleod,
Namal Perera, Asha Fernando, Vinuri Fernando, Lakshitha Peiris, Lahiru
Kannangara, Keshan Pathirana, Kosala Wijekulasuriya, Sachin Pasquel,
Akash Fernando, Gimhan de Silva, Thinija de Alwis, Udath Munasinghe, W A
K Shehan, Natasha Perera, Manthi Fernando, Jinuka Binaragama, Kalpadith
Weerasinghe, Kisal Fernando and Hiruni Hewage make up the cast in Rats.
“We like to thank Viven Hilbraun and David Rintoul, two famous
Shakespeare actors in UK for sending the original script, the music and
the performance license for Rats the musical,” the students noted adding
that the actors will be the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour at the
public performance which will take place at the Lionel Wendt on January
29 at 7.30 pm.
School shows will be held at the Ummul Maleesh Memorial Hall,
Panadura, on January 21 at 10.30 am and the Lionel Wendt theatre on
January 28 at 3 pm. Another public performance will be held at the Ummul
Maleesh Memorial Hall, Panadura, on January 22 at 7 pm.
