Saman and Navin cruise to victory

Former National Champions Saman Tillekeratne and Navin Samarasinghe had easy victories in the quarter finals of the National Squash Championship worked off at the Gymkhana Club courts, Colombo 7 yesterday.

Saman cruised to victory over Eranga Alwis by 11-4, 11-2, and 11-3 while Navin had no difficulty in overcoming Lal Wickremasinghe by 11-7, 11-2, 11-5.In the other two quarter finals Gihan Suwaris got the better of DS Gunawardena by 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 and Binura Jayasuriya beat Kasun Abeysekara by 11-4, 11-2, 11-3. In the women’s quarter finals the experienced Tehani Guruge overcame

Damindi Udangawa by 11-9, 11-6, 14-12 while well-known Sharya Guruge defeated KAM Nethsarani by 11-5, 11-1, 11-6. In the other quarter finals Nadini Udangawa beat Naduni Gunawardena by 5-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 and Mandakini Gunsekara received a walkover from Nirasha Guruge.

Men’s open quarterfinals: Navin Samarasinghe beat Lal Wickramasinghe 11-7, 11-2, 11-5. Gihan Suwaris beat D S Gunawardena 11-6, 11-8, 11-8. Binura Jayasuriya beat Kasun Abesekara 11-4, 11-2, 11-3. Saman Tillekeratne beat Eranga Alwis 11-4, 11-2, 11-3.
