Essay competition for schoolchildren

The Government Information Department will hold an Essay Competition for GCE O-L and A-L students under the theme "The new era of post-Independence Sri Lanka" to mark the 63rd Independence Day.

The essays incorporating the details of the socio-economic changes that are taking place after the end of three decade war in the country could be submitted in Sinhala, Tamil or English languages consisting 1,000 words. Students over 15 years are eligible to participate in this competition.

The winners will be awarded with certificates and prizes.

The winning essays will be published in the souvenir of the Government Information Department to mark the 63rd Independence Day celebrations. The students who wish to take part in the competition are requested to submit their essays with the certification of the principal to reach the Government Information Department's General of Information, No 163 Kirullapone Avenue Colombo 5 on or before January 10, 2011 by registered post.
