Wrong storage leads to fine

Two supermarket traders were fined Rs 10,000 for storing meat with
ice-cream, Margarine and chicken in one refrigerator. This is a
violation of consumer food laws and regulations. The food items were
destroyed.
Homagama magistrate fined the traders Rs 5,000 each.
Thoppigala re-settlers relieved

The resettled community in Kudumbimalai, Thoppigala were given relief
assistance by brigade 232, yesterday.
Kerosene lamps, stationery and dry rations were distributed among
1000 low income families in Kudumbimalai under the patronage of Eastern
Province Major General Bonifes Perera at Kudumbimalai school.
Thoppigala co-ordinator and Batticaloa in charge Colonel Chandrasiri
organized the donation program.
The beneficiaries thanked Sri Lanka Army for their humanity.
Missing
Police Public Relations and Media Director SP Priyashanth Jayakody,
seeks the assistance of the public to trace Ranil Gihan Edirisinghe, 32,
of Galle. Rupasiri Edirisinghe Arachchi of 114/4 D, Jamaliya Watta, Heli
Road, Eththiligoda in Galle seeks the assistance of the police to trace
his son Ranil Gihan Edirisinghe.
He is about 5' 5" in height. Any information about his son could be
given to the above address or to the nearest police station.
Arson deprives livelihood
Jaufar Khan Baticaloa Group
Fishing boats, nets and other fishing equipment worth Rs. 500,000
were gutted at Sainda Marundu estuary last Wednesday. Sainda Marundu
Fishing Union Chairman A R Meerantibu told that some unidentified people
had set fire on these valuable fishing gear which had been bought only
two weeks ago.
The incident has caused 100 fishermen to lose their livelihood, he
said.
Food sellers raided
Batticaloa Group
Batticaloa Police and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) after a sudden
raid prohibited selling unhygienic food in Batticaloa city. Several
canteens and groceries were found with packed food that was unsuitable
for consumption.
Batticaloa SSP I M Karunaratne, Batticaloa Police Environment
Protection Unit, Batticaloa Divisional Health Directors Office and PHIs
carried out the joint raid.
Distribution of free spectacles
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena will hold a
distribution of free spectacles among 500 persons who suffer from visual
impairment, tomorrow. This event is held to mark the Ayurvedic doctor AG
Darmasena's 10th death anniversary.
The event will take place at Sri Nidangalaramaya temple in Palalla.
Waligama at 8.30 am.
Free eye clinic for village dwellers will also be held along with the
event.
Music, drama contest
The finals of the Inter-school Music and Drama Contest will be held
in Colombo on December 29 and 30.
Director in charge of the music subject, Edward Jayakody requests the
respective drama and music teachers who have been selected for the final
contest to be present at a meeting to be held at the Folk Art Centre,
Pelawatte, Battaramulla on December 22 at 9 am.
They will receive their timetable and necessary instructions.
