IT education in rural schools:

Two ministries work in tandem

The Education Ministry has paid special attention to the need to have science laboratories and Information Technology Centres at all rural schools in the country.

According to the information given by the Education Ministry, a few rural schools in several Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabha areas will set up computer centres and science laboratories suitable for a better standard of education. Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane told the media recently that a team of officials has already been deployed to identify schools that lack computer facilities and science laboratory equipment. He further said that steps would be taken to immediately provide these requirements to such schools.

The Government recently recruited a large number of teachers for Information Technology for schools both in urban and rural areas.
