RCGC reigns over NEGC

The Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) led by Ananda Jayasekera made quite an impression, when its team last Saturday got the better of the golfers from the Nuwara Eliya Golf (NEGC) at the RCGC to win 6 1/2 to 5 1/2.

This annual encounter between these two leading golf clubs - that has a history of its own has been so well sustained through the past 108 years - with RCGC having won the Burdett Trophy on 62 occasions as against NEGC's 29.

Apart from the Burdett Foursomes and Burdett.

Singles, there were yet other competitions in the 125th anniversary Trophy, the Puffin Foursomes and Singles for Ladies and the Masters trophy. Those who excelled for RCGC in the 125th Anniversary Trophy were Prof A H Sheriffdeen, V T Sundaralingam, Kumar Boralessa, Sunil Udalagama, L Ramanayake, Joseph Perera, Lal Dias, J J Ambani, Lalin Senadhira, Anel De Silva, S J Kim, S Gurusinghe, M Hettiarachchi, A Pereira, C Weerasinghe, Gehan Siribaddana, W A K Fernando, G K Sudath Kumar. Impressive for NEGC were Lal Wickrematunge, Rohith Fonseka, Harin Udeshi, T Akbarally, M Mannapperuma, C Desinghe, Julian Dias, Caesar Fernando.

Those winners from RCGC in the Burdett Foursomes were Noel Selvanayagam, Sheron Fernando, Bandula Weerasinghe, C H S Piyaratne, Ananda Jayasekera, Mithun Perera and for NEGC it was Glen Mathew, Zen Dharmaratne. In the singles the winners for RCGC were Mithun Perera, Mihindu Chandrasoma, Sheron Fernando. Whilst the winners for NEGC were Srinath Rajapakse, Richel Hameed and Zen Dharmaratne.

In the Foursomes for the Ladies Puffin Cup the winners for RCGC were JDias, Manori Jayakody, Myungock Jane Hong and H S Lee for NEGC Nandine Jayaratne and Niloo Jayathilake were most impressive to win. In the Puffin Singles R Sangani and Jane Hong of RCGC won whilst D Senadhira was the winner from NEGC.

The Masters Trophy saw P B Kalugalagedera and Niro Dahanayake of RCGC win their Foursomes match whilst J M C Perera and Dr D Herath won their match.
