Jaffna felicitates Maj Gen Hathurusinghe
Jaffna Commander Maj Gen Mahinda Hathurusinghe was felicitated in
Jaffna at a function held at Catholic Guardian office. This function was
arranged to demonstrate publicly the sentiments of the people of Jaffna
on the awarding of "Kushi" Peace award by the government of Philippines
to the Jaffna commander.
Major Gen Mahinda Hathurusinghe in his speech said that the award
given to him is an honour to our country. The award has demonstrated to
the world that the people of this country are living united in peace and
harmony. After 30 years of war a harmonious situation is prevailing in
this country. We must preserve this harmony and the unity of the people
and ensure sustained peace in our country.
He expressed the army's sorrow at the demise of the Chief Priest
Murugamoorty temple at Chankanai. He would take stern action against the
Corporal who had alleged lent a rifle to shoot the chief priest of the
temple at the Chankanai robbery.
The felicitation function was attended by Bishop of Jaffna Mgr Dr
Thomas Saundranayagam, Bishop of Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South
India Dr Danies Thiyagarajah Hindu Prelne Sri La Sri Somasundara
Paramacharyar Swamigul and the leading citizens of Jaffna. |
