Dry rations for flood-hit

The resettled people in the Northern province affected by the recent floods will receive dry rations on a directive from President Mahinda Rajapaksa from Monday in addition to the assistance given by the Divisional Secretariats.

The President has paid special attention to the plight of these people after the Tamil National Allians (TNA) Parliamentarians raised this issue in Parliament during the budget debate. He has directed the Resettlement Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon to provide immediate assistance to the affected people.

Over 1,100 families in Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Jaffna districts affected by the rains will be provided dry rations and subsidies from Monday. Ministry sources added that food convoys have already been dispatched to these areas.

The distribution of dry rations will begin from Karachchi and Pooneryn Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
