Cancer Hospital transit home second phase initiated

MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd together with the CCC Foundation-Sri Lanka initiated the second phase of the Transit Home Complex located at Maharagama Cancer Hospital on December 10.

MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd Director, Ajay Amalean donated Rs 25 million to the National Health Development Fund and the cheque was handed over to Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena at the Health Ministry last Friday. Ministry Secretary Dr Ravindra Ruberu was also present.

MAS Holdings had made a pledge at their 20th anniversary celebrations to assist the Health Sector to a tune of Rs 100 Million. Accordingly with Friday donation of Rs 25 Million, the total donations of MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd to the Health Sector reached Rs 100 million.

MAS Holdings Director, Ajay Amalean confirmed their commitment to uplift the treatment and services available to cancer patients. Some of the equipment already donated to the Cancer Hospital- Maharagama are, ultra sound scanner, laparoscopy system, endoscopy, flame photometer, motorized micro Tome, X-ray processor, freezer, ICU beds, therapeutic ventilators, multi-para ventilators and many other medical equipment.

This donation of Rs 25 Million, is to be channelled towards the construction of the Transit Home.

Daily about 350 to 500 cancer patients attend the cancer clinic at Maharagama Cancer Hospital. Most of them are from the suburbs and outstation towns and have to attend the cancer clinic almost on a daily basis for their uninterrupted treatment, thus they face many difficulties without proper accommodation.

This has made it difficult for resident patients as well as doctors.

To overcome this problem CCC Foundation is constructing a Transit Home at a cost of Rs 175 million for the Health Ministry.

The Transit Home , once completed can house 175 patients with all the facilities and is free to patients. Accordingly, the CCC Foundation will take steps to start the construction, immediately.
