Paramedics call off strike

The Paramedical Officers yesterday decided to call off the strikewhich was scheduled for today following a discussion with Ministryofficials.

The Paramedical Association was to go on strike in 20key hospitals in the Western Province over five demands. According to a Health Ministry spokesman, the Paramedical Officersdecided to shun the proposed trade union action after the Ministryagreed to grant four out of their five demands.

Ministry officials led by Secretary Dr Ravi Peries and Health Services Director General Dr Ajith Mendis have told the ParamedicalOfficer's Association that they could provide solutions to their four keydemands at ministry level. Ministry officials have informed them that their last demand relatingto an allowance would be taken up with the Treasury officials soon. CP
