Facelift for Padeniya - A'pura roadway

The Government has undertaken a major road improvement project to
upgrade the existing roadway between Padeniya and Anuradhapura at US$ 70
million to facilitate tourists visiting world heritage sites in
Anuradhapura, Kandy and Polonnaruwa.
The project's main objective is to provide high mobility transport
between Padeniya and Anuradhapura, a Highways Ministry Spokesman said.
The project includes widening and improvement of 80.8km
Padeniya-Anuradhapura road with two lanes and with an addition of four
lanes in town areas.
Out of the estimated cost, the Korean Government through the Economic
Development Cooperation Fund of the Export-Import Bank of Korea has
provided US$ 55 million on concessional terms.
The project is expected to be completed in March 2012.
