The services sector has become a vital and fast growing sector of the
economy expecting a growth rate of eight percent during next year,
Senior Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama said. “The Government expects to
increase the economic growth to a double digit level in five to six
years. The economic condition in Sri Lanka is improving faster than the
developing countries thus going for a double digit economic growth will
not be a difficult task,” he said at the Money Brokering Certificate
Awarding Ceremony recently.
With the new budgetary concessions given to the corporates and
companies, there will be a significant growth in foreign exchange
transactions, Sri Lanka Money Brokers Association, President, Ashan
Dasanayaka told Daily News Business.
He said that the present money brokering companies are sufficient to
cater to the demand of the country.
There are nine money brokering companies in the country and the
transactions are done on hotlines. The money brokering companies deal
with all the primary dealers and non-primary dealers such as the
Insurance Corporation in the country.
Money Brokers, to be in line with the Forex dealers felt the need of
a professional exam and thus initiated the Certificate Course on Money
Brokering which will upgrade to a diploma in time to come.
The awarding ceremony was conducted by the Sri Lanka Money Brokers’
Association and the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. HP
