Taj Airport Garden in Rs 1.5 b expansion

To add 100 more rooms:

Rebrand as Gateway Hotel in January:

The owners of Taj Airport Garden, Seeduwa confirmed an investment of over Rs 1.5 billion for expansion and renovation with the tourism boom in the country. The expansion project will see the addition of a new 100 room wing to the hotel, doubling its current capacity. The hotel will be designed by world class architects with the expansion expected to set the benchmark for hotel standards in the country.

Movenpick seals hotel deal

Movenpick Hotels and Resorts has secured a management agreement to operate the Movenpick Hotel Colombo, a 180-room property, which is expected to open by mid 2013. The upscale property, located next to Liberty Plaza in the heart of the city will occupy half an acre in the prime downtown district, surrounded by commercial businesses, high-end residences and prestigious restaurants.

Sri Lanka’s total gem export value has exceeded Rs 6,949.4 million during the first 11 months in 2010 recording a three percent growth as against Rs 6,745.5 million gem export value recorded in the corresponding period in 2009.
