Moves to enhance competitiveness:
Rewards for local exporters

The Industry and Commerce Ministry has taken measure to launch a
special rewards scheme for local exporters.
Under the Export Development Rewards scheme, the Ministry will award
Rs 493 million for qualified exporters by next year, Industry and
Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said.
He was addressing an awards ceremony held at the Ministry auditorium.
Rs 262 million was distributed among 110 exporters who exported
continuously, despite the global economic recession in 2008 and 2009.
The aim of the scheme was to promote exporters and also enhance the
competitiveness of the export sector in Sri Lanka.
The Ministry was continuously working to promote the export sector,
by launching programs pertaining to enhance the supply chain efficiency,
promotion of export oriented SMEs and e-commerce services, the Minister
further said.
Ministry Secretary Tilak Collure and Commerce Department Director
General Gomi Senadhira were also present.
