Local Authorities Bill debate on Jan 4

The Local Authorities (Special Provisions) Bill and the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill will be taken up for debate when Parliament meets on January 4, 2011. This decision was taken at the Party Leaders’ Meeting held in Parliament yesterday.

The two Bills seek to amend the Local Authorities, laws to re-draw the boundaries of local bodies as well as change the method of election of members to a mixed system between the Proportional Representation (PR) system and the First Past - the Post (Westminster) system.
