System X desktop computers launched

Network Communications (Pvt) Ltd (NETCOM), the IT branch of the Adam Group of companies has introduced their latest addition, SYSTEM X desktop computers which are positioned as an ‘affordable’ entry level home and office PC.

The new desktop PC which is assembled in Sri Lanka offers ‘Value for money’, quality assurance backed by the company, a three year warranty with a warranty card and other benefits packed inside.

System X is powered by The Intel Pentium processor with Intel dual-core technology which delivers great desktop performance, low power enhancements, and multitasking for everyday computing.

Network Communications have partnered with Intel to offer the processors along with Intel’s G31 Chipset motherboard.

For the average user the difference in performance will be most noticeable when multi-tasking operations or when using Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) software’s such as Adobe Photoshop.

The desktop PC also comes with the Licensed Microsoft Operating system having partnered with Microsoft Sri Lanka.

Customers can be confident of using the Microsoft genuine Operating System Platform which will further facilitate with access to Micosoft’s latest features, security, and support, which will help to improve productivity and expand the capabilities of the PC. System X owners will also have access to new innovations and offerings available only to genuine Microsoft software customers.

NETCOM being the local agent for Viewsonic desktop LCD monitors have also collaborated to offer a 16 inch Viewsonic LCD monitor along with the System X PC making it a fantastic deal.

Viewsonic Monitors have been reviewed online as good value product with high end resolution, contrast and low electricity usage. The System X Comes with a Intel 2.8 GHz Dual core processor, Intel G31 Chipset Motherboard with onboard graphics card, 1 GB DDR11 memory (upgradeable), 500GB SATA hard disk drive, DVD and RW burner (SATA), 16” Vewsonic LCD monitor, Keyboard with optical mouse and added freebees such as a USB speaker and a web camera.

“System X will provide as an affordable solution for Sri Lankans especially when the country is gearing towards being IT proficient.

Toshiba launches android smartbook series

Toshiba’s Computer Division, recently entered the Smartbook market with the new Toshiba AS100 and AC100, designed with a slate and traditional clamshell from format respectively.

Their slimness and light weight, coupled with their always-on capability make them ideal devices for consuming media, browsing the Internet, viewing and editing documents, emails and other messages while out and about.

Easy and enjoyable to use, the Toshiba AS100 and AC100 are powered by NVIDIA Tegra 250 mobile processor and feature highly intuitive graphical interfaces developed by Toshiba to run on top of the Android 2.2 operating system.

Each device also features a built-in 1.3M pixel web camera and useful connectivity options including a SD card slot, HDMI and USB 2.0 connectors.

“The Toshiba Smartbook series is a great solution for users who need a secondary computing device while on-the-go.

Both Smartbooks are highly portable with a 14mm slim design and are extremely lightweight, making them really easy to carry around,” a Senior product marketing Manager of Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division said.

Weighing 750g, the Toshiba AS100 comes in a handy slate form factor that makes it convenient to use when on the move. Its capacitive multi-touch 10.1 inch widescreen display and highly friendly intuitive graphical user interface promises an easy and highly enjoyable user experience.

For users who prefer a keyboard, there is the Toshiba AC100 which comes in a traditional clamshell design. This device is equally lightweight at 870g and sports a black textured finish with Fusion Orange trims.

The AC100 also features a 10.1 - inch LED Clear Super View backlight screen, a large touchpad and dedicated apps buttons.

Powered by NVIDIA Tegra 250 1.0GHz processor that offers a perfect balance between high performance and low battery consumption, both systems can go for up to seven days without having to be recharged.

The Toshiba Smartbook series comes with a wide selection of pre-installed applications.


Etisalat free phone with post-pay package

Etisalat Lanka becomes the first Sri Lankan telecommunication company to give away free mobile phones to its customers along with its “Post-pay” connections.

MphasiS races past US $ 1 billion mark

MphasiS, a leading IT and BPO services company, announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full-year ended October 31, 2010.

‘MphasiS’ consolidated revenue for the year ended October 31, 2010 was US$ 1,099.3 million, crossing the $1 billion mark for the first time. This year’s results grew 25.8 percent over last year’s results of USD 874.2 million. During the year, net profit increased by 27.8 percent from USD 186.2 million to USD 238.1 million.

The company’s operating profit during the year ended October 31, 2010 was USD 240.3 million, a growth of 26.7 percent in comparison to the previous year. Operating margins for the year was 21.9 percent. EPS for the year was USD 1.13, an increase of 27.4 percent in comparison to the previous year.

The Directors Board has recommended a 40 percent dividend for 2009-10.

For the quarter ended October 31, 2010, the Group recorded revenues of US$ 296.2 million, a growth of 25.6 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. During the same period, net profit increased by 22.6 percent from US$ 51.0 million to US$ 62.5 million.

The Group recorded a consolidated net profit growth of 7.0 percent over the quarter ending July 31, 2010.

Revenues for the same period grew by 7.5 percent.
