Resolution submitted to Speaker

The Government yesterday handed over a resolution to Speaker Chamal
Rajapaksa requesting him to appoint a Special Select Committee to
investigate into the alleged involvement of UNP MP Jayalath Jayawardena
with pro-LTTE groups.
The Speaker accepted the resolution that was signed by 73 members of
the governing party including Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Members.
The Government has also requested that the Select Committee should be
vested with powers to call evidence to investigate claims that MP
Jayalath Jayawardena. Jayawardena had violated the Sixth Amendment to
the Constitution. Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva
accompanied by Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunwardena,
Environment Minister Anura Priyardarshana Yapa, Housing Minister Wimal
Weerawansa and Members A H M Azwer hands over resolution to the Speaker.
