Sterilizing clinic at Piliyandala
The Animal Welfare and Protection Association will conduct a free
sterilizing and neutering clinic at the Sports Grounds opposite the SOS
Children’s Village, Piliyandala on December 12 from 7.30 am to noon on a
first come first served basis.
Dogs and cats (male and female) four to six months and over can be
neutered and sterilized.
The animals must not be given any food and water for 12 hours prior
to the operation and must not be sick.
Cats should be brought in a box or cage or used rice bag and dogs on
a chain.

New saltern begins work

The new saltern at Killawatana in Hungama has commenced salt
production.
It has been targeted to produce 10,000 metric tons of salt per year
at this saltern. A large number of employment avenues will be created as
a result.
A fully fledged factory has been set up at the Bataatha industrial
zone to packet salt.
V-Care cares for children
V-Care International Foundation has taken the lead to help the
children in need of love, care and basic requirements in life.
V-Care undertook a project in collaboration with the Divisional
Secretariat in Ratmalana on November 24. School bags, shoes and many
stationery items were handed over to 50 children of low-income families.
Ten students were awarded scholarships.
V-Care will provide school items and dry rations for 300 families in
Moneragala next January.
Interim order issued

Colombo District Judge W R R N Wathupola issued an interim order as
prayed in the petition in connection with a financial transaction and
directed the complainant in the case to deposit of Rs 50,000 in Court.
Complainant Hene Arachchige Gamini Chandralal Rodrigo of Gonawela,
Kelaniya cited Herath Mudiyaselage Sarath Kumara Ekanayake of
Battaramulla and Liyanage Sarath Fedric Silva of Dalugama, Kelaniya as
respondents.
Senior Attorney Nihal Somasiri instructed by Rukshan Fernando
appeared for the complainant.
NLDB earns profit
The National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) yesterday denied
certain press reports which categorised it as a financial loss and said
it had become a profit-earning institution from 2009.
According to the Auditor General’s Report the NLDB has earned a
profit of Rs 24.5 million in 2009 said the Board in a statement released
under the hand of its Vice Chairman Lakshman Hulugalle.
The statement further said that eventhough the NLDB had been stated
among 55 loss making institutions in a statement tabled in Parliament
recently by UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya. The Board had continued
to earn profit since 2009 with a profit of 168.8 million accrued for the
nine months ending September this year.
Rapid response from CEB
The Power and Energy Ministry, the Ceylon Electricity Board and Lanka
Electricity Company (Pvt) have activated hotlines 1901, 1987 and 1910
respectively to attend to complaints of various disruptions to the
electricity supply due to the bad weather prevailing these days.
This rapid response service, initiated on the instructions of Power
and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka, will also entertain complaints of
illegal power connections as well. The new service could be contacted
via email [email protected] or by post to P O Box 576, Colombo.
No collections in the name of war heroes
It is totally prohibited to collect money from the public ‘in aid of
the war heroes’ without the permission of the Defence Ministry, said a
press release issued by Media Centre for National Security Director
General Lakshman Hulugalle.
This is in view of information received by it that certain people are
collecting money from the public in the guise of spending them for the
welfare of the members of the Security Forces and the Police.
Media institutions have also been advised not to give publicity to
such unauthorized fund collections that bring the war heroes into
disrepute.
Prize giving
The fifteenth anniversary Prize Giving of Sri Sanghamitta Daham
Pasala, Colombo 2 will be held at the Stanley Jansz Hall, Perahera
Mawatha, Colombo 3 on December 12 at 9am.
Resettled urge school
The Sinhalese families who are settled at Navatkuly have requested
the Government to provide admission for their children in a Sinhala
school in Jaffna. There are 186 families settled in the land belonging
to National Housing Authority at Navatkuly.
They say that their children can be admitted to Sinhala Maha
Vidyalaya that remain closed.
