Vigilant civilians, police officers rewarded

The Police Department rewarded a batch of 737 police officers and 30 civilians responsible for and assisting in combating crime, drug use and performance of other duties at a ceremony at the Crimes Division auditorium Colombo held under the patronage of IGP Mahinda Balasuriya on December 4.

A Police Headquarters release said the batch of 737 police officers received cash awards totalling Rs 12,444,000 while the 30 civilians received cash awards totalling Rs 2,370,000. Families of police officers who sacrificed their lives in the performance of duties were also given cash awards while 17 received additional salary increments and 510 received special commendation letters.
