Imports to maintain prices of essentials

The Co-operatives and Internal Trade Ministry will soon import essential commodities from Pakistan and India to maintain the prices of essential goods, Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando said. "Measures are being taken to maintain prices of essential commodities such as chicken, eggs, onion and sugar during the festive season," the Minister said.

This will facilitate a drop in prices of certain essential commodities by next week. Especially, it has been predicted that the prices of rice and onion will drop when this imports started receiving by next week. Probably the prices will come down after December 15, he said.

These commodities will be dispatched to Sathosa, Laksathosa and Co-operative shops no sooner the stocks arrive in the country by next week, Ministry official said.

In addition the Ministry assured that there will be no price increases of essential goods but a drop in prices during the festive season. DS
