Indescribable love

Expressions

It is unfair to ask the artist to explain the intended idea of a creation to the very point. Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is a vivid justification done to an artist who cannot express himself in words but by means of his works.

This condition is applied to any artist who is seasoned with conferring his inner concept into a creation that ultimately becomes alive.

Enjoying the mind’s eye with the paintings and sculptures which have been manufactured within a clan of artist - now at display at Barefoot, Colombo 3 - anyone seeking for a definition of art could come to a conclusion that art can express a great deal from its appearance than in the medium of words. The exhibition is named constellation.

Manoranjana Herath, Vajira Gunawardena, Indika Wijrathne and Gayan Prageeth are the artists who present their works which represent human feelings and emotions.

Eroticism

Explaining why they have come up with such a conception to hold an exhibition of different note Manoranjana Herath, a lecturer of the University of Visual Art and Performing Arts, said: “We are young. So our young energy should not go into oblivion without being taken any use of. That’s why we four got together to instigate this program which is now a success.’

Vajira Gunawardena, who is a hand in the collective attempt of the four, said that he mediates at a point when human is not able to express himself due to barometers within himself. “The creation cannot be put into words. It may be a material output of psychological, political or sociopolitical impact.” Opined Vajira.

Indika Wijerathna’s works depend on the sexual desires burning inside human beings. His works speak the concept of eroticism in a very quiet complex manner. He has employed many devices to explain the concept he wants to show.

Gayan Prageeth drives his works on the lines of the tension within the human. How he gets into the tension and how he sometimes releases that tension are depicted by his creative hands.

Gayan, Vajira and Indika

The exhibition will be held from December 2 to 16 at the Barefoot gallery. Everyone who loves art and sculpture can enjoy their minds by witnessing this rare exhibition.
