More North American tourist arrivals

Tourist arrivals up to October has increased by 44 percent when compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, a Government Information Department release said. The number of tourist arrivals this year is 479,598 while the arrival of tourists during the previous year upto October was 346,717.

In October this year, 52,370 tourists arrived in the island, recording a 39 percent increase compared with the 37,575 tourist arrivals during October in the previous year.

The highest number of tourists were from North American countries numbering 31,537.

This is a 67 percent increase as against the 18,976 tourist arrivals recorded during 2009, the communique said.
