Protests cannot retard President's forward march

Birth of deceitful people who try to tarnish the country's image through international conspiracies when they fail to achieve their ulterior motives locally is a great natural misfortune, said Most Ven Attudawe Sri Rahula Mahanayaka Thera of the Sri Rohana Chapter and Chancellor Ruhuna University referring to the protest campaigns launched by the Tamil Diaspora in UK during President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit there recently.

The prelate said protest campaigns instigated by terrorists and their cohorts can never retard the forward march of a leader like the President who had startled the world by defeating the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world and steering his country towards development and progress.

Most Ven Sri Rahula Mahanayaka Thera said whatever tactics are adopted by detractors the people of this country are firmly backing the President to the hilt.

That is why they had elected him with an unprecedented majority of over 1.8 million votes at the last Presidential election.

He said the patriotic people should flock round the President and protect him from people launching various conspiracies against the state in league with sinister international forces.
