Largest haul of madanamodhaka detected

The Beruwela Police on Monday seized the largest haul of the intoxicant substance known as madanamodhaka ever detected in the countrywide anti-narcotics drive so far.

Police following on information that the substance was being distributed islandwide in the guise of a medicinal concoction were able to trace its source to a large factory turning out medicinal products in Colombageara in Udawalawa where the Madanamodhaka stock was found .

According to Sub Inspector Udayanga of the Crimes Division of the Beruwela police the substance valued at Rs 1.5 million had been divided into 35,000 packets for countrywide distribution.

The detection was made by police after first obtaining the telephone number of the factory and calling it on the pretext of purchasing the madanamodhaka. The factory had offered to supply 100 packets for Rs 65,000.

The police had then obtained Rs 100,000 and headed for the factory in Udawalawa for the raid where they arrested 3 suspects and seized a van along with the illegal substance.
