Attack on Lankan cricket team:
Pakistan nabs suspect
Pakistan police Tuesday claimed they have detained the main suspect
allegedly involved in the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in
Lahore last year. The middle-aged suspect, identified as Qari Abdul
Wahab alias Qari Umer, was caught from the Raiwind area of Lahore for
masterminding the attack on the visiting Sri Lanka cricket in March
2009, police added.
The Superintendent of Police, Lahore, Umer Virk, has said that Umer
was allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases including the
attack on the Sri Lankan team.
Virk said Umer, a former activist of the defunct Lashkara-e-Jhangvi (LJ),
who provided information to other terrorists regarding their targets and
locations.
Police recovered a suicide vest, mobile phones and Rs 2.5 million
from Qari Umer during the arrest.
