Relief to coastal railway dwellers

Transport Minister, Kalutara District Development Committee Chairman Kumara Welgama directed relevant officials to provide immediate relief to people living on either side of the coastal railway line from Waskaduwa to Wadduwa railway stations affected by the recent heavy rains.

The Minister observed that almost all houses and their compounds have been inundated by rain water due to a lack of a proper drainage system and most residents were still finding difficulty in attending to their daily routine of work. Minister Welgama who said that local politicians and State officials are responsible for this sorry plight said that they should ensure that such problems would not arise in future.

The Minister also requested chairmen of Pradesheeya Sabhas to assist in restoring the drainage system in this region by deploying Backhoe machines.
