House reserves seat for President

A seat in the Chamber of Parliament was reserved for President Mahinda Rajapaksa since yesterday. The front row seat that was allocated to the Prime Minister was reserved for the President. With this change Prime Minister D M Jayaratne will now occupy the seat to the President’s left.

In accordance with the provisions of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution the President can visit Parliament at any moment and attend any session.

A senior officer of Parliament told the Daily News that as there were provisions to reserve a seat for the President in Parliament without changing Standing Orders, the seat was reserved since yesterday morning.
