Over 3,500 families displaced
Puttalam group corr.
Nearly 3,576 families have been displaced in the Chilaw,
Arachchikattuwa and Pallama Divisional Secretariat divisions due to
floods caused as a result of the Dedunu Oya overflowing its banks
following incessant rains during the last few days said the Puttalam
District Disaster Management Centre.
The displaced have been found temporary accommodation in safe places
and steps taken by the relevant Divisional Secretaries to provide them
with cooked meals, said a spokesman for the centre.
Public talk
Indika Perera will deliver a public talk in English on “Empirism,
Rationalism and Buddhism” at the meeting of the Servants of Buddha
Society on Saturday November 27 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maithree Hall,,
Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
Death of N B Ratnayake
The death occurred on Monday night of N B Ratnayake, father of
Private Transport Services Minister C B Ratnayake. He was 85.
N B Ratnayake was a social and religious worker. His remains are
lying at 24, Dambawela Road, Ampitiya, Kandy. Cremation takes place at
the Mahaiyawa General Cemetery, Kandy on Thursday, November 25 at 4 p.m.
Get-together
The ‘93 batch of St Sylvester’s College, Kandy will hold their
get-together on Saturday, November 27 at Sky View Hotel, Asgiriya, Kandy
from 9 a.m. onwards.

Sevana Saviya program
The National Housing Development Authority is constructing 328 houses
Islandwide to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term of office.
The inauguration ceremony of this Sevana Saviya housing scheme will
be held at Ranala Village, Kaduwela on November 25 at 9.30 a.m.

Two held for theft
Gampola group corr.
Two suspects wanted in connection with more than 16 incidents of
house breaking and theft in the Gampola area during the past several
months were arrested by the Gampola Police along with a three-wheeler
used by them. They were produced before the Gampola Acting Magistrate S
M Husseni and remanded till December 2. Investigations are continuing.
