Lanka Embassy in Beijing marks President's second term in office

The Sri Lanka Embassy staff in Beijing organized a ceremony on November 22 to mark the swearing-in of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the second term. The National Flag was hoisted to the singing of the National Anthem before work began in the morning.

Ambassador Karunatilake Amunugama in his speech elaborated the importance of the occasion. He saw as the hallmark the devote commitment by President Rajapaksa to rid Sri Lanka of terrorism and his efforts to develop the country for the economic empowerment of the people.

Ambassador Amunugama reiterated the need by all Government officials to join hands with President Rajapaksa in carrying forward his future vision for Sri Lanka.

He spoke of the necessity to continue with further efforts to sustain and enhance co-operation in all spheres of Embassy activities, with a particular orientation towards further opening avenues for the promotion of trade and investments and in giving due importance to promoting the concept of "Visit Sri Lanka 2011".

The Embassy staff on November 15 planted fruit bearing red apple trees (Malus Domestica) in the garden.
