Lanka Embassy in Beijing marks President's second term in office
The Sri Lanka Embassy staff in Beijing organized a ceremony on
November 22 to mark the swearing-in of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for
the second term. The National Flag was hoisted to the singing of the
National Anthem before work began in the morning.
Ambassador Karunatilake Amunugama in his speech elaborated the
importance of the occasion. He saw as the hallmark the devote commitment
by President Rajapaksa to rid Sri Lanka of terrorism and his efforts to
develop the country for the economic empowerment of the people.
Ambassador Amunugama reiterated the need by all Government officials
to join hands with President Rajapaksa in carrying forward his future
vision for Sri Lanka.
He spoke of the necessity to continue with further efforts to sustain
and enhance co-operation in all spheres of Embassy activities, with a
particular orientation towards further opening avenues for the promotion
of trade and investments and in giving due importance to promoting the
concept of "Visit Sri Lanka 2011".
The Embassy staff on November 15 planted fruit bearing red apple
trees (Malus Domestica) in the garden.
