LSSP supports development budget - Minister

The Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) will support the government’s development process further, Scientific Affairs Senior Minister Prof Tissa Vitarana told a media briefing at Nippon Hotel, Colombo yesterday.

The decision was taken at the LSSP’s 17th National Congress held on October 30 and 31. The LSSP appointed new office-bearers at the Congress based on seniority.

The LSSP’s 75th anniversary will be held at the Maharagama Youth Centre on December 17 at 3 pm. LSSP is the oldest party in Sri Lanka. Over 5,000 members will participate at the 75th anniversary, he said. Prof Vitarana said the Party will support the 2011 Budget as the Government has taken a genuine effort to develop the country.

“We hope that this budget will cater to all communities. The Government has taken measures to develop Science and Technology. The President has added some suggestions in the five year Science and Technology National Policy which we presented. Measures have been taken to increase the research scientists’ and officers’ salary. There are also benefits for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs,” he said.

LSSP Deputy Secretary Anil de Zoysa, National Organizer Y G Padmasiri, Treasurer Kirthi Kariyawasam and Assistant Secretary D M D Aberatne were also present.
