President tells Ministry Secretaries:
Work for the people

President Mahinda Rajapaksa after appointing the new Ministry
Secretaries stated that there services are vital to achieve the
development goals. The President called upon the newly appointed
Secretaries to contribute their fullest to carry out the Mahinda
Chintana program effectively.
He urged the newly appointed Ministry Secretaries not to confine
themselves to the seats they held but to work for the people as a
friendly and practical public servant. “You all should make the people’s
aspirations a reality through hard work and commitment,” he said.
“Responding to the people’s requests is mandatory for every secretary
and they should personally look after the Ministry’s functions and see
to its smooth functioning,” he said.
“Therefore, it is your duty to be honest and report the truth about
any type of misdeeds taking place in any Ministry,” the President said.
“Similar to the Ministers the Secretaries too are vested with great
responsibility of their relevant Ministry,’ he stated. “No government
officer will be able to cheat me since I have a sound knowledge about
the state sector of the country,” he added.
The President pointed out that the Secretaries of the Ministries have
a duty towards the entire nation instead of a limited region or
district. Special attention needs to be given by the Secretaries to
underdeveloped and underprivileged areas, he stressed.
Presidnet Rajapaksa further said monthly evaluations need to be made
by holding progress meetings.
