[Poetry]

The defeated

(at the beauty competition)

Her dark complexion
And fine features,
Are not attractions
To the panel of judges,
As it's unusual
To perceive deeply,
At the lustful world.

Yet her kindness to others
And benevolence
Surpasses,
The frail and skin deep beauty,
Of other females,
Who lack depth in feelings
And the transient nature,
Of the world,
And there lies her crowning
Over the generally accepted
Beauties of the world.

Grandson

In a sweet, fair face,
Too bright, twinkling eyes
Two chubby rosy lips,
In between a row of pearls,
And a loving babyish smile
which worth me millions.
I have held him at five,
So cuddley....
Again at one.
As a loving little toddler,
He reminds me his father,
When he held my hands,
Walked along the streets,
Stopping here and there,
Scotting to see the pets.

Then he flew back to UK
With his dad and mum,
Leaving his smell and thoughts
For me to think and share.

Now he is three,
Talkative and playful.
He comes on skype;
Sings and reads,
And makes me happy;
With his British accent,
And funny little styles.

Every time I see or talk to him,
He change colours,
But ask for one thing
His only favourite cars.
He knows them by name;
From 'BMW' to "Lambogini"
But at this age; I feel shame,
As I still don't know;
The cars by its name.

Wave out your sadness in a flag

Sky high goes your smile,
Don't let it fall in a while.
Far away... in the Isle,
Bury sadness, discover your smile.

Believe every minute of today,
Stop worrying about next day.
Love today... live today,
Chase your fear, along long way.

See everything very bright,
Switch your eyes towards the light.
Ride your dreams... at the night,
Paint happiness, for your sight.

Pack your troubles in a bag,
Throw it away like a rag.
Of happiness... tie a tag,
Wave out your sadness in a flag.

Halloween

Mystic darkness slowly creeps into the twilight hours
Silence reigns over night underneath gray misty showers
Crescent moon shines above the mighty high mountains
Twinkly little stars hid beyond dainty, dark night's curtains
Blowing wind murmurs its gruesome story
Bluster across the land with absolute glory
Skeleton trees twist as their final leaves fall
Down mystic allees their silhouettes stand tall
Mournful sound of howling wolves breaks the silence
Mysterious shadows quickly glide through the darkness
Fallen autumn leaves crackle as soon as they get trampled
Gleaming lanterns stand in a line and finally get clustered
Dim lights gleam, masquers gather holding bloody long drinks
Brains, bones, fingers and eyeballs are among devilish delights
Beside the neighboring murky lake, as the seclusive loons sing
Halloween pumpkin faces make the Lucifer's terrifying grin

Why stars shine secretly

Golden frocks and snowy shoes
Golden carts and snowy beds
Given to her by sun and moon
She, the little starry princess
Sleeps in a fairy world
Wakes up from a dream of fairy
Opens the windows of her eyes
Spells to the innocent earth,
Rich and handsome
But careless and mischievous
Create beautiful dreams
With help of their friends.
But, fear to the royal sunshine
Yet, they try to smile secretly
Clouds help them secretly.
That's why we see in the sky
Stars shine secretly everyday....

I have a dream ...

(With deep respect to Martin Luther King Jr)

I have a dream, I have a dream ....
I see it from afar,
It's drawing closer, closer
Like a beautiful, glimmering star

There are smiles on people's faces,
For once again they're free -
Free to move from place to place
With friends and family.

Farmers working in their fields
In a peaceful atmosphere,
Reaping loads of golden grain,
Of hunger - there's no fear

Well planned roads and bridges,
Strong dams, the floods control.
No more deaths from drowning
When heavy rains take toll.

No homeless by the wayside
Tumble-down shanties are gone.
Instead in peaceful surroundings
Trim cottages, the village adorn

Each child has a place in school,
Rich or poor he be,
With chances to sharpen his talents
To be the best he can be

A healthy happy generation
Growing up to play their part,
To lift up country and nation,
Working with head and heart

I see Sri Lanka's leaders,
With different points of view,
Holding hands in friendship,
Their best they wish to give.

Let's dream this dream together
A dream for me and you
For reality is born of dreams
Let's make this dream come true.

Young artist Yuvini

Dexterous fingers
Gentle strokes.
Palette in one hand
The young artist goes
With brush and paint
Chosen colours blending,
Out comes her inner thoughts
On canvas,
As if never ending.
Figures, pilgrims,
Changing scenery,
Another young artist
Stepping forth.
We stood admiring
Clever exhibits,
At the join show,
Mingling with beautiful thoughts,
Clear on canvas
Bringing out talent
Of these future young gifted blossoms
Of our Golden Island.
