Nithiyashree honoured

Dr Nithiyashree Mahadevan

Thivya Sivanesan

Kalaimanani Dr Nithiyashree Mahadevan will perform in Colombo on November 7 at the New Kathiresan Hall, Bambalapitiya, Colombo, in aid of Hindu Education Society building funds.

Nithiyashree is gifted, not just with a scintillating voice, but also with a family that has enriched Carnatic Music in many ways. Nithiyasree, however, is modest about her achievements.

Music is in her blood. The legendary Mridangam artiste Palghat Mani Iyar was her maternal grandfather, D K Pattammal her paternal grandmother and D K Jeyaraman her paternal uncle, were all instrumental in shaping Nithiyashree as an artist. She was only 13 when she began her career at the Youth Association of classical music by bagging the Best Artiste award.

Nithiyashree, as an artist is in tune with the times, she has ventured into playback singing for movies and television as well. She has performed in all the major music concerts in India and all over the globe with more than 50 audio and 10 CDs recorded.

As a graded artiste of All India Radio Nithiashree's voice reaches far more listeners than what is possible in concerts halls alone. In appreciation of her remarkable contribution in music Nithiyashree was honoured by the prestigious Sasas in India and abroad.
