Mahindananda new Sports Minister

The new Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage was an outstanding sportsman during his school days at Gangasiripura Vidyalaya, Gampola and Royal College, Colombo.

He came into the political arena by being elected to the Central Provincial Council in 1993 and served as the Council’s Health, Indigenous Medicine, Probation and Childcare Minister. He entered Parliament in 2000 and was appointed Highways Deputy Minister. He served as the Power and Energy, and Samurdhi Deputy Minister from 2004 and was elevated as the non-Cabinet Power Minister.

After being elected to Parliament for the fourth time in April 2010, he was appointed Youth Affairs Deputy Minister and did much to promote sports among youth. He organized the youth sports festival in Nawalapitiya recently.
