‘Media persons will perform major role’

Keheliya Rambukwella who took oaths as the Mass Media and Information Minister yesterday said he hoped to bring media persons of Sri Lanka to the highest international pedestal when the country is transformed into the Miracle of Asia through the Mahinda Chinthana vision for the future.

Making a special statement after the swearing in ceremony, Minister Rambukwella said he studied and identified the true role of the media in the nation building effort during his earlier short tenure as Media Minister and he hoped to make this role a reality in the future.

He recalled that a vast majority of media persons in this country played a sterling role in defeating terrorism by properly identifying their role in the past.

He was certain that they perform their role well in the nation building effort as well.

The Minister said he also hoped to implement a program he had planned for the benefit and welfare of the media sector.
