Palestine photo exhibition
The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine will hold a
photography Exhibition depicting dilemma of the Palestinians since their
historical state was wiped off the map by Western powers to make way for
colonial state of Israel and also their struggle for freedom and
justice.
This exhibition is to coincide with UN Palestine Day which falls on
November 29 and will be held at the J R Jayewardene Centre from 10 am.
Admittance is free of charge and is open to public.
The exhibition will be opened by Prime Minister D M Jayaratne. UNP
Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya will be the Guest of Honour.
The exhibits will show how the Palestinians were expelled from their
homes in 1948 by the Israeli forces. The main feature of the exhibition
is to focus on how the youth have suffered since the inception of Israel
and how whole families that had lived for generations in Palestine were
forced to flee their homes and move into squalid refugee camps.
Some pictures illustrate the slaughter of the village of Deir Yassin
where over 250 villagers mostly women and children were killed in cold
blood. The Deir Yassin massacre was intended to frighten the
Palestinians. |
